Deploys paused 'out of credits' but billing shows credits left

On a Netlify credit-based plan, production deploys are blocked as if the team had run out of credits, yet Usage & billing > Credit balance still lists credits. Netlify's docs tie paused projects and blocked production deploys to a used-up credit balance. Confirm you are reading the owning team's ledger. If the mismatch remains, report it to Netlify support as a billing problem.

Likely causes, most common first

Cause 1 · in 3 of 5 matching cases

The pause does not match the credit balance

Netlify's docs say projects pause once the credit balance is completely used up, and that you cannot trigger new production deploys while projects are paused. If the owning team's ledger shows usable credits for the current cycle, that condition does not appear to be met. The billing FAQ asks you to contact support if you find a problem with your billing.

How to tell: The owning team's credit ledger lists unexpired credits for the current cycle, yet production deploys are still blocked.

Cause 2

You are reading a different team's balance

Netlify calculates usage for all projects on a team from that team's dashboard. If you belong to more than one team, the positive balance you are looking at may belong to a team that does not own the project you are deploying.

How to tell: The team that owns the project is not the team whose Usage & billing page you checked.

Check and fix it, step by step

  1. Confirm which team owns the project

Open the project and note which team owns it. Then open that team's dashboard. Usage is calculated for all projects on a team, so the balance you check must come from the same team.

  2. Read the team's credit ledger

Go to Usage & billing > Credit balance. The credit ledger lists your monthly plan credits and any other available credits, with the date each was granted and the date it expires.

  3. Check daily credit usage by meter

Go to Usage & billing > Account usage insights and select Credits. The daily credit breakdown chart shows which meters used credits and on which days.

  4. Compare what you see with Netlify's documented paused state

When a team's credits are used up, all deploys pause, including Deploy Previews and branch deploys, and visitors get a Site not available page. If production deploys are blocked but your site still serves normally, tell support.

    curl -s https://<your-site>.netlify.app | grep -c "Site not available"

  5. Report the mismatch to Netlify support

Send the team name, the billing period, a screenshot of the credit ledger and the blocked production deploy. Netlify's billing FAQ asks you to contact support if you find a problem with your billing.

  6. If the credits really are used up, wait for the next cycle or add credits

On the free plan, wait for the next billing cycle or upgrade. On a Personal or Pro plan, you can buy more credits in packs at any time, and a Team Owner can enable auto recharge.

Quick check: On the team that owns the project, open Usage & billing > Credit balance. Does the ledger list available credits?

Questions

Will my live site go down while production deploys are paused?

Netlify's docs say that once a team's credits are used up, all its projects pause and visitors see a Site not available page. If your site still serves normally while production deploys are blocked, that differs from the documented paused state. Tell support when you contact them.

When do free plan credits come back?

The monthly credit balance resets at the start of each billing cycle. Netlify's FAQ says the cycle start is tied to when you opened your team account. You cannot buy extra credits on the free plan.

Do unused credits from last cycle still count?

Monthly plan credits do not roll over, with one exception: on a Pro plan with 5,000 credits or more, unused monthly credits roll over for one billing cycle and then expire. Credits bought in credit packs roll over to future months.

Can a team member with the Developer role fix this?

People with the Developer role can check usage and monitoring for all projects on the team. Only Team Owners can change the team's billing settings, such as enabling or disabling auto recharge.
